Olderman receives Jim Goodman Memorial Lifetime Achievement award from PIACT

The 2019 Jim Goodman Memorial Lifetime Achievement award, the highest honor bestowed by the Connecticut Young Insurance Professionals, was given to the Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut past president Howard Olderman, on Oct. 3 at the sixth annual CTYIP Industry-wide Golden Gala Awards Night at Fantasia in North Haven, Conn. This award is named for PIACT past president Jim Goodman, who was an officer and president of both PIACT and CTYIP. Jim passed away in 2014 after a long, hard-fought illness. Olderman is president of The Olderman and Hallihan Agency Inc. in Ansonia, Conn.    

“With over 30 years in the industry, Howard is an effective and respected leader in the insurance industry,” said Katie Bailey, CPIA, ACSR, CLCS, CTYIP president. “His service to our profession is unique and extensive. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep level of dedication and has earned the respect and trust of his colleagues and clients. CTYIP and PIACT are honored to give him this award.”

Olderman has been on PIACT’s board of directors since 2002 and is active in the association, serving as president for 2010-11; president-elect in 2009-10 and vice president for 2008-2009. He currently serves on the Administration/Nominations and Association Programs Committees.

In 2012, Olderman received PIACT’s Professional Agent of the Year. This award is given to given to a professional, independent agent who has demonstrated excellence and achievement in insurance marketing and service; has shown a personal commitment to professionalism; and has contributed to PIA and the community. In 2007, Olderman received PIACT’s Committee Chairperson of the Year award. This award honors the PIACT volunteer who best demonstrates dedication and effort in chairing one of PIACT’s committees. Olderman was honored for his service as chair of the Legislative Committee.

Active in the industry, Olderman is an adjunct professor for Goodwin College in their insurance-focused curriculum, which the PIACT has helped to develop.

In his community, Olderman is on the chairperson for the Valley YMCA in Ansonia, Conn.

CTYIP, an affiliate of PIACT, promotes the professional and personal growth of those new to the insurance field by providing education and networking opportunities.PIACT is a trade association representing professional, independent insurance agencies, brokerages and their employees throughout the state.
