Member call: Contact your Senator on TRIA now

As the 114th Congress starts its work, it is imperative that one of the first acts Congress considers is reauthorizing the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act. Last year, the U.S. House passed the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2014 (S.2244), which would provide a long-term and mostly straightforward reauthorization of TRIA, in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 417 to 7. However, a senators objection to an unrelated provision in the legislation prevented its passage in the Senate and resulted in TRIA expiring on Dec. 31. With the incoming Congress, we are optimistic that they will work together and swiftly pass a measure to reauthorize TRIA.

On Jan. 7, the House considered and again passed the bill (H.R.26) in the new Congress to provide for a long-term reauthorization of TRIA. It is now up to the Senate to act

It is important for PIA members to ask their senators to support reauthorizing TRIA as one of the Senates first acts in Congress this session. This will let your senators know that this issue has support and will entice them to act!
