The Law has Changed on Flood Insurance—Can You Tell Your Clients How?

Sheldon Hansen, CIC, CRM, CPIA

This course reviews the new laws of flood insurance. Most of the Biggert-Waters Act is dismantled by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014 and the Homeowners Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014.

This session discusses the provisions of both pieces of legislation, including that which has been delayed and that which has been reversed. Additionally, the flood manual changes that continue to bring the NFIP in compliance with the mandates of these two recent laws affecting flood insurance availability and pricing will be reviewed.

New Surcharges, policy fees and scheduled premium increases are things every agent needs to be aware of. The program concludes with the November 2015 changes to bring everyone current with notes on potential future changes. Flood insurance is a moving target being pulled at by Congress, State Insurance Departments, Insurance companies and consumer groups. Litigation has become a common remedy for Flood Claim disagreements.
