Be prepared for impending hurricanes with PIA resources

As the Southeast prepares for Hurricanes Matthew and Nicole, PIA has prepared the tools for your agency to stay informed and help inform your clients. While hurricane paths are unpredictable, we know the Northeast is not exempt from storms that carry flooding rains and damaging high winds. Be prepared should this, or any disaster-related event, happen.

PIA offers these resources, available 24/7 on its website at pia.org, to help plan for, or work through, a disaster:

  • Hurricane Info Central—a one-stop resource for anything related to hurricanes. You will find information on business interruption; loss of use; hurricane deductibles; news and regulatory announcements; FAQs; and so much more. And, you now get Tweets in real-time from the National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center.
  • Agency Preparedness & Recovery Plan—a starting point for your plan development of office and operations preservation, to include personnel issues, external effects, communication and more.
  • Flood Insurance Tool Kit—answers to your flood-related questions, including how to write flood coverage, training, news, flood maps and marketing materials to inform your clients about the importance of flood coverage.

Assisting clients before, during and after a catastrophe is one of the most valuable services  professional, independent agents can provide them. Shine through the storm by helping your clients prepare for the event with safety tips, coverage information, etc.

In anticipation of unforeseen crises causing loss of power and communication with your agency, PIA is accepting the emergency contact number for the agency principal or a designated single agency staff person for each agency location. PIA wants to deliver the information you need fast regarding the catastrophe, so you can better serve your customers in their time of need. Agency principals can complete this form.
