CID notice concerning ordinance or law coverage

The Connecticut Insurance Department issued a release regarding Public Act 105-85, “An Act Concerning Law and Ordinance Coverage.” Effective July 1, 2019, all policies issued or renewed that day must offer Ordinance or Law coverage in an amount not greater than the amount specified in the policy.

Based on the conditional renewal requirements in Conn. Gen. Stat. Sections 38a-323, companies reducing the amount of coverage for Ordinance or Law from what was offered in the previous policy period would need to send a conditional renewal notice to the insured explaining the reduction in coverage.

If the amount of coverage is reduced, carriers are expected to document that Ordinance or Law coverage was offered and a conditional renewal notice was provided.
