In response to an inquiry from PIANY, the New York Automobile Insurance Plan announced today that it will be extending its Dec. 31 deadline for completion of the Producer Procedures Course for those producers who are impacted by Sandy. Anyone not affected by the storm still is encouraged to take the course before year end. 11/6/12—DFS updates, expands moratorium to commercial policies. As PIANY reported yesterday, the NYS DFS originally announced a 30-day moratorium on cancellations for certain personal line policies in the 10 storm-ravaged counties. Today, the department sent PIANY an updated memorandum that now includes commercial policies as well as policies issued under the New York Automobile Insurance Plan and New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association. Of course, any policy covered by the DFS moratorium must be in the affected counties, and for commercial policies, the headquarters or principal base of operations of the policyholder must be located in one of the affected counties.
