PIANY President Anthony A. Kubera, CIC; PIANY past President Henry Kaye, CIC; PIANY Director Fred Holender, CLU, CPCU, ChFC, MSFS; and PIANY Director Eric T. Clauss met with western New York legislators to discuss important issues to protect insurance consumers.

The legislators visited included: Sen. Patrick Gallivan, R-59; Sen. Marc Panepinto, D-60; Sen. Timothy Kennedy, D-63; Robert Ortt, R-62; Michael Ranzenhofer, R-61; Catharine Young, R-57; Rep. John Ceretto, R-145; Rep. David DiPierto, R-147; Rep. Joseph Giglio,R-148; Rep. Andy Goodell, R-150; Rep. Stephen Hawley, R-139; Rep. Michael Kearns, D-142; Rep. Crystal Peoples-Stokes, D-141; Rep. Sean Ryan, D-149; Rep. Robin Schimminger, D-140; Rep. Raymond Walter, R-146; and Rep. Angela Wozniak, C-143.

This session, PIANY continues our tradition of placing the interests of our policyholders first and will continue efforts to pursue important consumer protection proposals that aim to:

  • address the fraudulent use of certificates of insurance by requiring them to be filed with and approved prior to use;
  • reform New York's "Scaffolding Law" to establish a comparative negligence standard for claims under Labor Law 240 and 241;
  • standardize the events that would trigger coastal homeowners insurance hurricane deductibles;
  • remove the NYSIF's exemption from licensing and other insurance requirements; and
  • repeal mandatory photo inspections that cause policyholders to lose automobile physical damage coverage.
