Twenty-fourth annual Fun Run
Bright and early Tuesday morning the New Jersey Young Insurance Professionals challenged the NY-YIPs at the 24thannual Fun Run on the boardwalk. The event exceeded expectations and raised $142,249 for the cause. Funds raised by this, and other events by PIA, has allowed thousands of Special Olympics athletes to train and take part in Special Olympic events. Some 144 runners took part in the 5-kilometer race. Chris Mignone, a member of the Franklin Mutual Insurance Co. team, finished first for the men with a time of 18:50; Nancy Connolly, of Heritage Insurance Agency finished first for the woman with a time of 22:05. In terms of fundraising, Franklin Mutual Insurance Co. was the company that raised the most money, contributing $61,984 to the Fun Run total. On the agency side, Jimcor Agencies raised $10,153. And, the most funds raised by an individual was $2,360 by Ed Francis of ARI. “This year's Fun Run was, as it always is, both enjoyable for participants and extremely valuable for the intended fundraising beneficiaries,” said Kristen Juszczak, president of NJYIP. “The true winners were the athletes involved in Special Olympics New Jersey.”
