  What is this?

Survey data was collected from PIA members in Connecticut and New York from 2003 through 2008; in New Jersey from 2005 through 2007; and in New Hampshire from 2007 through 2008. PIA agencies were asked to rate their carriers' performance in various areas. This site displays each state's survey results, by company, for each year.

The survey design changed in 2009. For 2009 and subsequent years, go to: PIA Company Performance Survey trends.

  2) Company chart: Top box—overall scores

    • Average all companies—Average total score for all companies rated (by year)
  3) Company chart: Bottom box—scores on 16 performance items

    • Products and pricing
    • Treatment of agents
    • Marketing support
    • Technology
    • Claims handling
    • Service
    • Underwriting

Performance items are positive statements (e.g., “Pricing is competitive”)

The score reflects how well the company's agents say these statements describe this company (“perfect score” = 5). This score is the average of all ratings provided by the company's agents on a scale of 1 through 5 (by year).

For each year, compare the company's score and the average score of all companies side-by-side.

    • The company's score is higher? It scored above average on this item.
    • The company's score is lower? It scored below average on this item.
