This essential E&O seminar will review the “real” cost of a claim with the aid of case studies. Participants will learn what drives E&O losses, sources of E&O claims in the independent agency, the laws of the agency, agents’ duties, risk identification, emerging exposures to all lines, and how to implement an E&O loss control program.

Employment Practices Liability Insurance is a relatively new form of liability insurance. It provides protection for an employer against claims made by employees, former employees, or potential employees. It covers discrimination (age, sex, race, disability, etc.), wrongful termination of employment, sexual harassment, and other employment-related allegations. It covers your firm, including its Directors and Officers. At this session you will learn how to identify the EPL risks your clients face so they can be properly protected.

This HR-focused session will cover topics such as the “at will” doctrine, the Civil Rights Acts of 1866, 1964 and 1991; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993, the Americans With Disabilities Act, sexual harassment and the vicarious liability of employers.

This seminar will explore the ethical and moral issues that insurance professionals face on a daily basis while trying to balance the profitability of their agency with the legal and fiduciary responsibilities owed to their clients, companies, and employees; all while trying to attract new business in a highly competitive marketplace. Learn how your agency can project high ethical standards to your competitive advantage. This class will incorporate relevant case studies and is designed for all agency employees.

 

 

 


Instructor bios

Bruno P. Falvo, CIC, CPCU, ARP
Falvo Training & Consulting

Bruno is a member of the National Faculty for CIC and has taught 28 different subjects in Agency Management, Commercial Casualty, and Personal Lines in CIC institutes, Advanced Coverage and Ruble Seminars for all of the associations that sponsor CIC. Bruno has spoken at many state and national conventions, and has been a contributing author for a number of industry publications. He was named Educator of the Year by PIANY in 1989. Bruno is involved in the development of the IIAANY's Agency Management MASTER Certificate, and IIA's ACSR Programs. He is also a faculty member for those programs.

Bruno served as a member of the PIANY Board of Directors and is the past chairman of PIANY's CIC Trustees, Young Insurance Professionals, Communication and Education committees. It was for his extraordinary service on the Education Committee that Bruno was named chairman of the year in 1987. Bruno has served on many other committees within our industry, including the State Licensing Exam Review Committee.

Prior to his involvement in training and consulting Bruno was a principal in a medium size agency and later went on to serve as vice president and general manager of a cluster group. In his capacity as general manager of the cluster group he served as a management consultant for all the agencies within the group. He was involved in over 40 acquisitions and mergers, and consulted on more than 100 other agency acquisitions and mergers.

IRENE TOWNSEND MORRILL, CIC, CPCU, CPIW
Seabrook, New Hampshire

Irene Townsend-Morrill is Director of Technical Affairs for the Regional Agency Services Corporation. She is responsible for the development of education programs and seminars throughout the Regional Agency Services Corporation territory. Irene was an education coordinator and Director of Education for PIA/NE before becoming Director of Technical Affairs. She is a member of both the CIC and CISR faculty and teaches both programs extensively. Prior to joining PIA/NE, she worked at an insurance agency in Haverhill, Massachusetts for ten years and was responsible for underwriting and claims handling for all lines of insurance.

Ms. Townsend-Morrill attended Wheaton College where she was a Dean's List student. She earned her CPCU designation in 1983, her CIC designation in 1986, and her CPIW designation in 1983.

In addition to her responsibilities at the Regional Agency Services Corporation, Irene is a member of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Women.
