PIA offers tools, resources for National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month. The Federal Emergency Management Agency sponsors the monthlong campaign in order to encourage Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies-such as flooding, hurricanes and other disasters. The campaign seeks to educate individuals on prevention, response and recovery. PIA is also committed to assisting members through catastrophe.

During a disaster, insurance producers must assist their clients and keep their agencies running efficiently. It does not take a widespread catastrophe for an agency to experience a loss, it is important to begin preparations immediately. To track of this season's tropical storms/hurricanes, click here. PIA offers members a variety of tool kits and resources to assist with preparations.

To help members plan for a disaster, PIA offers its Agency Preparedness and Recovery Plan. The manual outlines the benefits of preparing a written pre-catastrophe plan and offers suggestions if your agency is faced with these types of losses.

Any questions PIA members may have regarding flood insurance can be answered through PIAs Flood Insurance Tool Kit. This resource includes access to PIAs technical staff and all the flood information needed to properly advise clients.

PIAs Hurricane Info Central offers PIA members guidance with hurricane-related preparations and recovery through a variety of resources.

For further assistance regarding preparedness, contact PIA's Industry Resource Center at resourcecenter@pia.org or by phone at (800) 424-4244.
