January 29, 2010

BROOKLYN, N.Y.–The Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc. presented John Reiersen with its Distinguished Insurance Service award at its annual Metro Regional Awareness Program, Jan. 28, 2010, at the New York Marriott Brooklyn.

This award is presented to individuals in the insurance industry who have a history of significant contributions and support to the regional insurance community.

“With this award, PIANY honors John for his long-standing commitment to the insurance industry,” said Kevin Ryan, CIC, president of PIANY. “The award also commemorates his dedication and hard work, as well as his loyalty to our industry. John’s professionalism is to be admired and respected.”

Reiersen has been in the insurance field for more than 40 years. For more than 25 years, he worked for the New York State Insurance Department. When he left, he was chief examiner in the Property and Casualty Insurance Bureau. During his tenure with the NYSID, Reiersen was instrumental in getting many statutes and regulations enacted including the photo inspection law and the automobile no-fault program. In 1999, Reiersen was elected president of the Commercial Insurance Company, which became Kingstone Insurance Co. in July 2009, a position he still holds today.

PIANY is a trade association representing professional, independent insurance agencies, brokerages and their employees throughout the state.
