PIANJ issues FAQ on top-priority COI legislation; announces upcoming Webinar

Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation into law (Chapter 195 of the Public Laws of 2015), which prohibits any person from preparing, issuing, requesting or requiring the issuance of a certificate of insurance that contains false or misleading information, on Jan. 11, 2016.

This legislation was a top priority for PIANJ during the 2014-15 legislative session and your association worked hard toward its passage. PIANJ testified in favor of the legislation during hearings of the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee and the Senate Commerce Committee. In addition, PIANJ worked to gain support for the bill among elected officials.

The new law is effective Sunday, April 10, 2016. PIANJ has created an FAQ to answer some of the questions members might have about the new law. If you have a question not addressed in the FAQ, please contact PIANJs Industry Resource Center at resourcecenter@pia.org.

Upcoming Webinar-save the date

To educate members further, PIANJs technical staff is planning a Webinar that will discuss the details of the new certificates of insurance law. The PIA Webinar will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Watch your PIA publications for more details or email education@pia.org to be added to our mailing list for more information when its available.
